We were thrilled to take home another award yesterday as we were crowned winners of the UK Initiatives category at the fifth annual International CSR Excellence Awards.
The aim of the International CSR Excellence Awards is to recognise, reward and promote Corporate Social Responsibility, and to help publicise winners so that others are encouraged to follow their lead.
This year’s awards were one of the most popular so far, with over 100 applications across all categories, half of which were from overseas organisations. Our award recognised two campaigns our Daytime teams ran in 2017 that encouraged the nation to talk about mental health triggers and support those around them; This Morning’s #BeKind and Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes.
This Morning’s #BeKind anti-bullying campaign helped teachers and parents encourage children to speak up if they or someone they know is bullied. Partnering with The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Campaign, the show created resources for primary and secondary school teachers about the topic. Over 11,000 Teachers’ Packs were downloaded and over 270,000 parents across the UK pledged to talk to their children about bullying.
Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes campaign encouraged viewers to pledge to spend time with someone lonely by volunteering with a charity partner or visiting someone in their community. The 2017 campaign partnered with 10 UK charities who provided local volunteering opportunities. A staggering 65 million minutes were pledged by viewers over the two years of the campaign.
All successful businesses are in a position to help their communities, the less fortunate, and others, to some extent – but few of them can harness the power of television to really achieve a positive impact. ITV have the unique advantage of being able to take important messages right into the living rooms of most homes in the UK. They have obviously used this power responsibly with carefully chosen partners and campaigns. We are delighted to recognise and reward the success they have achieved

With programmes that reach almost 40 million viewers a week, we recognise our opportunity to create positive change by encouraging our viewers to act and support others around them. We will continue to use our channels and our reach to make a difference.
