London's Southbank in darkness after switching lights off in support of Earth Hour 2016

Switching off to celebrate Earth Hour

Our London sites join iconic landmarks to celebrate Earth Hour 2016

On Saturday 19th March at 8.30pm, a record-breaking 178 countries and territories switched off landmark lights for Earth Hour to raise awareness of climate change and celebrate the planet.

More than 350 landmark buildings across the world – including the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and Big Ben – were set to take part in the 10th annual Earth Hour.  Sydney Opera House was among the first to turn off its lights at 8.30pm local time (9.30am GMT), along with Sydney Harbour Bridge.  When the time came, we joined in the celebration along with our neighbours on London’s Southbank by switching off as many of our lights as possible in support.
