World Meat Free Day

Coronation Street encourages the team to go meat free

On Monday 13th June 2016, the team at Coronation will be showing their support for World Meat Free Day, a global campaign that encourages people to change their diet for just one day. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the benefits of eating less meat for both health and environmental sustainability reasons.

The Corrie team are supporting by taking meat off the lunch menu for the day and working with our onsite caterers to offer a menu that celebrates and showcases delicious meat free options, encouraging colleagues to give it a go.  With around 200 colleagues based at the site, we estimate that if everybody goes meat free for lunch, this could be a GWP (Global Warming Potential) saving that’s equivalent to driving a bus for 2458.89 miles.

Coronation Street continue to lead the way in sustainable production and have previously won the Film and Television award at the Observer Ethical Awards and are albert+ certified.

It is great that ITV are supporting World Meat Free Day, I can come to work and take part, it really makes me think about how my eating and lifestyle affects our environment. It amazes me that going meat free for one meal is the carbon saving equivalent of boiling the kettle 388 times! I think it is little steps like this that can really help make change
